Lukáš, Richard ; Veselý, Arnošt (advisor) ; Čada, Karel (referee)
Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague Institute of Sociological Studies, Department of Sociology Bc. Richard Lukáš Obstacles of improvement in pre-graduate teacher education: qualitative case study of faculty of education (Master Thesis) Consultant: doc. PhDr. Arnošt Veselý, Ph.D. Prague 2016 Abstract Institutional and organizational context of teacher training on faculties of education is not sociologically well developed topic, even though it is essential topic for the future of society. The goal of this work is to explore where are obstacles of improvement of teacher training on faculties of education in Czech Republic. I answer this question through the case study of a selected Czech faculty of education. I discovered several obstacles of improvement of teacher training by realizing interviews with faculty heads; analyzing the frames, which they use for framing their experiences with the obstacles; and analyzing the institutional context of teacher training on the selected faculty (intervention heuristic investigation). In the institutional view, the main obstacles are several external factors (e.g. state funding, role of Accreditation Commission etc.); specific history of teacher training in Czech Republic; structure of the faulty and organization of the studies there; and the...
World Englishes and English as a Lingua Franca: a reflection of global paradigmatic changes in the Czech Republic.
Quinn Novotná, Veronika ; Mothejzíková, Jarmila (advisor) ; Píšová, Michaela (referee) ; Sherman, Tamah (referee)
Introduction: Presently, there are more people who speak English as a second and foreign language than there are native speakers. This situation results, among others, in the fall of the native speaker model and subsequently in gradually changing attitudes to standard(s) and to language and teaching authorities in general. Present thesis reflects these current developments, which are sometimes referred to as 'a paradigmatic shift'. Objectives: The first goal of the thesis was to decipher the terminological pluralism pertinent to the domain. Next, this research set out to investigate, how familiar the phenomenon of English as a lingua franca (ELF) is in the Czech Republic, and consequently to raise awareness about it. Finally, it was our goal to conduct vast research exploring if and how the questions of language ideology are reflected in the teaching practice and in teacher training. Methodology: Both quantitative and qualitative research methods have been applied throughout the research process. The quantitative research included nine originally devised questionnaires. Qualitative data were obtained via conducting semi-structured interviews. Altogether, data were collected from 595 respondents (298 teachers, 285 students and 12 scientists). Results: First, the research results revealed the...
University studies of primary school teaching from a full-time student´s point of view.
FORMANOVÁ, Andrea
The teacher of the primary education at elementary school is becoming an important authority in the process of school attendance of every student. This is the reason for a preparation and knowledge in a variety of different subjects from various fields, more than in the case of the specialized teacher, because the general outlook and professionalism is expected. This diploma thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with the problematic of preparation of the teacher for the profession in Czech Republic and abroad. Further it contains chapters touching the personality of the teacher and the key teacher's competences. The practical part presents the results of mixed research realized on students of the first and fifth years. For the purposes of the research survey the method of interview and questionnaire were used. The aim of this diploma thesis and the research survey is to outline the view and the expectations of the first and fifth year students of the primary education at the pedagogical faculty. Together with this aim the comparison of the results of the Hana Reifova's diploma thesis dealing with a similar question from the point of view of the beginner teacher is noticeable.

This bachelor thesis deals with the review on the subject of implementation of Inquiry Based Education (IBE) at primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic and in other countries. IBE is introduced as a direction that might solve the crisis of science education and alleviate the decline in interest in technical and natural science disciplines. The main goal of the thesis is to gather the greatest possible deal of information about the topic of IBE. It is also aimed to summarize knowledge about implementation of IBE at Czech schools, especially teachers´ experience. Another aim is to create a sample task of IBSE on the voluntary subject of either natural science or biology that may be used for teaching. Another integral part of the thesis is the chapter on the pilot project called IBSE School that took place in the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia. In this project, teachers were informed about IBSE. In this part, the results of implementing of IBSE at schools are summarized and they are compared to the previous results.
Připravenost studentů učitelství přírodopisu a biologie na interaktivní konstruktivistické vyučování s využitím prekonceptů žáků
KOLČAVOVÁ, Zuzana
This thesis deals with biology and science pre-servis teachers´ availability to teach by using of the constructivistic approach, particularly the preconceptions. Data collecting was based on the questionnaires which were distributed through 160 informants from four university faculties educating teachers within January ? March 2010. The answers of the informants were categorized and assessed both qualitatively and quantitatively. It was found that most of informants didn't know the expressions ?constructivistic teaching?, ?constructivism? and ?preconceptions?. They either had never heard these terms or they simply hadn't remembered them. While the meaning of the expression ?constructivism? was estimated by almost one half of the informants, the meaning of the term ?preconceptions? was familiar for less than a quarter of the informants. By the given example of the topic ?photosynthesis? and ?digestion? in the form of model preconceptions we found that the informants´ level of professional knowledge is quite high and they are able to teach this topic.
